2 tablespoons shortening -- melted
2 cups sugar
2 cups buttermilk
2 eggs -- lightly beaten
4 1/2 cups flour
5 teaspoons baking powder
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon salt
2 cups cleaned blueberries
1 cup walnuts -- chopped

In small bowl mix melted shortening, sugar, buttermilk, and beaten eggs-set aside.
In large bowl combine dry ingredients. Form a well in the bottom and pour in buttermilk mixture. Stir together 15 or 20 strokes. Drop in blueberries and walnuts, blend into batter.
1.) GREASE AND FLOUR PANS.
2.) LET BATTER SIT IN PANS TWENTY MINUTES BEFORE BAKING.
3.) BAKE 350 DEGREES, 1-1 1/2 HOURS, GLASS PANS COOK FASTER, I START CHECKING AT 45 MINUTES.
Batter will be stiff. Spoon into 2 medium (8x4) loaf pans and push into corners.
Cool 10 minutes before removing from pans. Continue to cool on wire racks.
NOTES : Makes two loaves.
